Peridot was first discovered around 1500 B.C. in Egypt. However, due to extremely difficult mining conditions, harsh climates and geographical remoteness, exploitation of Egyptian peridot was only intermittent and then ceased altogether. While peridot resources were later mined in countries such as Myanmar, the United States, Pakistan, and China.
Peridot is the gem variety of the mineral olivine, most of which was formed deep inside the earth and was delivered to the surface by volcanoes.
